The Xiangya Road Tunnel in Changsha, Hunan Province, was completed and opened to traffic on July 5th, allowing citizens to cross the river in as little as 5 minutes. This is currently the largest diameter shield tunnel in Hunan Province and the largest tunnel project crossing the Xiangjiang River. To date, Changsha urban area has 14 cross-river channels.
The Xiangya Road Tunnel in Changsha, Hunan Province, was completed and opened to traffic on July 5th, allowing citizens to cross the river in as little as 5 minutes. This is currently Hunan Province's largest diameter shield tunnel and the largest tunnel project crossing the Xiangjiang River. Changsha now has 14 river-crossing channels in the urban area.
Citizen Li Lin attended the opening ceremony. He said that before the 1970s, people in Changsha had to queue for boats to cross the Xiangjiang River, taking more than an hour. Ferries would also stop running in bad weather. Now, the continuously planned river-crossing channels not only facilitate people's travel but also accelerate the integrated development of both sides of the Xiangjiang River.
The Changsha Xiangya Road river-crossing channel project is 4.18 kilometers long, with a river-crossing section of 1429 meters. The total investment is 5.3278 billion RMB, and the construction unit is China Railway 14th Bureau Group Co., Ltd.
The complex surrounding environment and geological conditions were challenges during construction. The project team organized a team of experts to conduct scientific research, and tailor-made a "Xing Sheng Hao" shield machine that integrates many advanced technologies to overcome the multiple challenges of crossing the Xiangjiang River and improve construction efficiency.
This shield machine is one of the most advanced intelligent excavation equipment in China, with a diameter of 15.01 meters. It has successively passed under the Xiangjiang River embankment four times and crossed the fractured zone at the bottom of the river twice, both high-risk areas.
Zhang Yazhou, the person in charge of the Xiangya Road project of China Railway 14th Bureau, said that it overcame the complex geological challenges of large-diameter, long-distance, high-strength rock formations at the bottom of the river. The shield tunnel construction created a construction record of an average monthly advance of 180 meters in rock formations and a maximum monthly advance of 270 meters, accumulating valuable experience for similar shield construction in riverbed rock formations.
Inside the tunnel, the monitoring system, people's livelihood system, and visualization system are more intelligent, enabling intelligent interconnection, digital acquisition, autonomous inspection, and full-line radar monitoring of the tunnel after opening to traffic. A smart operation center has also been built based on the Internet of Things platform and digital twin technology, creating a smart brain for tunnel operation management.
Zhang Yazhou introduced that the "one-map control" of tunnel operation control and emergency rescue has achieved full-business visualization of real-time operation status, safety events, and equipment status.
